Featuring Sedona Geology by Well Known Geologist, Wayne Ranney

Wayne Ranney overlooking Sedona, ArizonaHit the Trail is pleased to announce its latest feature, Sedona Geology. Having expanded coverage to include the Sedona area, I am proud to present these new chapters by geologist Wayne Ranney, the person who literally wrote the book on the topic!

Wayne’s book, has just been released as an all new “Sedona Through Time“, completely updated third edition! “Sedona Through Time” is considered the foremost on the subject, and he shares a rich synopsis of his work in chapters beginning with the Introduction to Sedona’s Geologic Story. (The 3rd edition is not yet available at Amazon. Go to Wayne’s bio page for more information on ordering the newest edition.)

Wayne’s explanations are clear and easy-to-understand. The book is beautifully illustrated and includes gorgeous paleo-maps by Ron Blakey depicting different eras of geologic time.

If you are planning on hiking Sedona’s trails or driving around the area, I highly recommend getting a copy of Wayne’s book as you’ll find a section at the end of the book dedicated to “Geology Road Logs and Hikes.” There are some nice drives with great views and descriptions of what you are seeing–including Oak Creek Canyon! Wayne also describes a couple hikes and a walk so that you can experience the geology on a personal level.

Enjoy!
