Many readers of this column have fond memories of their time beneath the rim in Grand Canyon National Park. Solo, with friends, in good weather and bad, the canyon experience has a way of elbowing its way into any list of favorite adventures. Making all this possible are the roughly two dozen historic trails that afford access to the Grand Canyon’s myriad points of interest; whether they be waterfalls, beaches, or just good old fashioned open desert terrain.
In their capacity as the official fundraiser for Grand Canyon National Park, the Grand Canyon Association (this writer’s employer) has established the Grand Canyon Trail Fund. Donations to this fund go towards the preservation and rehabilitation of these dusty thoroughfares by the hard-working National Park Service trail crew. The time to “give back” has never been better as an avid hiker and his wife currently have a $10,000 matching grant on the table, which is set to expire on May 1st.
