When not working on my next contribution to the Canyon Column, I can usually be found running the Grand Canyon Field Institute (GCFI), the field seminar program for the Grand Canyon Association (GCA). Each year GCFI takes thousands of park visitors on educational walks, hikes, backpacks and river trips.
For those who aren’t lucky enough to make it to the park in person, we’ve developed a feature on our website that just might be the next best thing. Designed by Jack Pennington (GCFI’s program coordinator, geology instructor, and webmaster), the Virtual Tour whisks viewers to many of the canyon’s most exquisite locales with the click of the mouse. A number of the vantages even allow the user to look in every direction via a QuickTime panoramic image. I invite you to follow this link to the depths of your Grand Canyon National Park.
Editor’s note: Original link no longer available. However, there is now a complete page of many different virtual tours available on the park’s site here.
