North Rim Yurt

North Rim Yurt | Photo courtesy of Grand Canyon National Park

The North Rim Yurt has been permanently closed due to safety concerns, specifically those of hantavirus. The park’s press release of October 3, 2017, can be found here discussing the decision.

Basically, “the closure and demolition of the yurt is a proactive measure taken to protect park visitors and employees from conditions conducive to rodent exposure and the accompanying risk of medical infections, such as hantavirus.

There is no diagnosis or indication of infectious disease relating to rodent exposure from the yurt. These actions are precautionary and are being taken with the emphasis on visitor and employee safety.”
