Citing the challenges to household finances resulting from the global economic downturn, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar recently announced that the National Park Service will waive entrance fees to all of the sites under its jurisdiction during select weekends this summer.
On June 20-21, July 18-19, and August 15-16, all 147 park units that typically charge an entrance fee will be greeting visitors with little more than a smile and wave. The Interior Department’s gesture will surely come as welcome news to families across the country that couldn’t imagine a summer vacation without an exploration of their national heritage.
